The Future Advice Fund is an example of a how a group of funders are working to move the needle on a complex problem by collaborating together to increase the impact of their funding. The collaboration is between Unbound, the Legal Education Foundation (who leads it), the Baring Foundation, Comic Relief, and (until its closure) The Diana Memorial Fund. This work seeks to address the challenges that the legal aid sector has faced following public funding cuts. The Future Advice Fund aims to create a sustainable future for the provision of free advice services for areas of social welfare law, including immigration and asylum.
There are three objectives of the Future Advice Fund:
- To provide funding to advice organizations to develop, implement, and replicate ideas for restructuring and organizational development that seek to put agencies on a more sustainable footing.
- To generate tools, resources and lessons on the future sustainability of advice services that benefit the wider advice sector.
- To use results from this program to influence the policy and funding environment for advice.
Funders of FAF also make direct grants to organizations that are part of FAF.
